The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha has alleged that the Government was conspiring to mortgage 1.75 lakh acres land available in the land bank of Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) to raise funds and issued a GO to turn the Corporation into a public limited company from private one.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday ( May 12, 2025), Ms. Kavitha stated that the changing the status of TGIIC as a public limited company from the existing private limited company would facilitate the government mortgage the lands and raise loans. The government had already raised ₹10,000 crore loans by mortgaging the 400 acres lands at Kancha Gachibowli.
She sought to know why the government had kept the status change of TGIIC as a secret and did not inform the people. What would be the fate of the lands in the event of TGIIC stock suffering loss in the stock exchange, Ms. Kavitha asked.
Terming the government plans as the lack of foresight about the future of the State, she demanded that the government withdraw its reported decision to change the status of the Corporation. She mentioned that the Congress Government had already borrowed ₹1.8 lakh crore loans in 16 months.
The money borrowed so far was not used to implement at least one election promise fully despite the government’s claims that it had spared ₹80,000 crore for repayment of loans. Ms. Kavitha sought to know as to what the government did with ₹1 lakh crore. She had the information that the amount was used to clear the bills of major contractors including the company of a Minister, and not used for Welfare schemes, Ms. Kavitha noted.
The BRS leader demanded that the government issue a white paper in case what she had been claiming was wrong. She stated that a majority of the ₹1 lakh.
Ms. Kavitha stated that she was not blaming the government on her own but only reflecting the people’s opinion in the 47 constituencies she had visited so far.
