A five-member gang was arrested by Jolarpet police on Tuesday for killing a retired army personnel over previous enmity a few days ago.
The arrested persons were T. Bharath, 24, the victim’s cousin, and his friends B. Venkatesan, 24, C. Vasanthakumar, 23, Akbar Basha, 21, and Tipu Sultan, 20, of Jolarpet town and adjoining villages.
According to the police, K. Chakaravarthy, 41, who got discharged from the Army a few years ago, was on bad terms with his maternal uncle, G. Thimmarayan, 65, over a land dispute. In February, the duo got into an argument, during which he bludgeoned Thimmarayan to death.
The police arrested Chakaravarthy, who came out on conditional bail a few days ago. To avenge his father’s death, Bharath, along with his friends, intercepted Chakravarthy near his village and hacked him to death. They then fled the spot.
Based on the orders of Tirupattur SP, Shreya Gupta, special teams nabbed the gang from Tirupattur.
