The Nallalam police on Sunday (May 11, 2025) arrested Naseedul Sheikh, an accused in a human trafficking case, five months after he allegedly escaped by jumping off a train in Bihar while being taken to Kozhikode last year.
Sheikh is accused of trapping a 15-year-old girl by pretending to be in love with her, kidnapping her, and selling her to a Haryana native for ₹25,000 in October 2023. He was a neighbour of the girl’s family, who were then residing in Kozhikode. He was arrested in Assam based on a complaint filed by the girl’s parents.
Meanwhile, the police tracked the girl to Buna in Haryana.
This time, the police acted on a tip-off from the Cyber Cell that Sheikh was still in Assam and arrested him with the help of the Assam Police from Bhawanipur in West Bengal. Sheikh’s father, the second accused in the case, remains absconding.
